The 2025 NC Appraisal Institute Value Law Symposium offers appraisal professionals a two-day program focused on crucial legal and theoretical valuation aspects. Day 1 features sessions on the Unit Rule and its misapplications, Expert Reports on federal civil procedure, and "The Calling" - examining the profession's history and significance. Day 2 tackles the complex distinctions between Fair Value, Market Value, and Fair Market Value across different professional contexts, using case studies and practical examples to clarify these often misinterpreted terms.
Continuing Education Credits Pending Approval. Josh Wood, JD, MAI, AI-GRS, is a valuation expert, educator, and adjudicator whose practice centers on the intersection of appraisal theory and the law. Mr. Wood’s deep roots in two independent but related fields give him a rare perspective on issues of valuation and the law. This has supported his work on assignments involving atypical property rights such as market value for property in a bilateral monopoly, the exercise of eminent domain on the right of reverter, and taxation of apartments built under the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program, including the resulting tax credits. Mr. Wood is a regular contributor to Valuation Magazine. Links to recent articles are below: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love AI We will also be joined by Appraisal Institute President Paula Konikoff, JD, MAI, AI-GRS. Ms. Konikoff is an experienced arbitrator and expert witness and will add additional color to the sessions in addition to a lunch and learn on Day 1. Registration details are coming soon!
